Designing a Child Growth Tracker for Health-Conscious Parents
Company: Little Joys
Role: Product Designer
| About the Company
Little Joys is a wellness brand focused on child nutrition and growth. It offers a range of health products like gummies, milk mixes, and vitamin supplements designed to support immunity, weight gain, and overall development. The core challenge? Helping parents feel confident and informed about their child’s health journey.
| The Problem
Parents were using products, but were unsure of the results.
They had one major concern:
“How do I know if this is actually helping my child?”
This lack of feedback created friction in product usage and trust. We needed to close the loop between product usage and visible progress.
| The Solution: A Personalised Child Growth Tracker ✅
I introduced the Child Growth Tracker, a dedicated feature that let parents actively track their child’s development while using Little Joys products.
Key Features:
Add child profile with name, DOB, gender, height & weight
Auto-calculate BMI and compare with healthy growth benchmarks
Recommend relevant products based on growth status
Show a timeline of progress — not just numbers, but story-driven visuals
Use gentle nudges to track monthly inputs and build a habit
It turned passive product use into an informed parenting journey.
| Behind the Scenes: How I built it 🔍
Conducted user interviews with parents to map out expectations and friction points
Created 3 growth visualisation models and tested them via A/B experiments
Studied popular baby tracking apps to understand mental models and emotional cues
Partnered with pediatric advisors to validate growth indicators and messaging
Used conversational UI patterns to make the experience feel less clinical, more human
| Metrics & Outcomes 📊
User conversion improved by 18% (those using the tracker were more likely to purchase again)
+26% increase in time spent per session
Reduction in product return requests by 14%
Over 60% of new users completed the child profile setup within 48 hours
Parents reported higher trust in the product after engaging with the tracker
| Conclusion
The growth tracker didn’t just provide numbers — it gave parents reassurance. It added meaning to product usage and gave a sense of direction to everyday parenting choices.
When parents saw progress, they stayed loyal.
When they stayed loyal, the product worked better.
It was no longer a product. It became a partnership in their child’s growth.
